Water! In many areas of the world it means contributing to the socio-economic well-being of a country. This is what we did in Uganda, bringing drinking water to a school.
We are in Uganda, The Pearl of Africa. A country in the hinterland of Africa. A varied territory that hosts snowy peaks, the immense Lake Victoria and a rich wildlife and animal. Within the 2040, its goal is to transform itself from a peasant country to a medium-income one. To break all this, an ancient problem: water. There is no water for agricultural production, for industrial development, for tourism and city development. There is also no drinking water for health.
According to the WHO report: 2.1 billion people do not use safe drinking water sources. Over a third of these live in sub-Saharan Africa. In Uganda, just 40% of people boil water. Furthermore, the lack of access to drinking water and inadequate sanitation are the causes of most of the 2.2 million annual deaths caused by diarrheal diseases. Children under five are particularly affected.
To ensure access to drinking water is a precious resource and an essential human right. The project "Water Ambassadors" moved on this guideline, to which Firex Srl immediately joined as Sponsor.
The "Water Ambassadors" project involved 1000 Ugandan students and 400 young local water ambassadors. After 1 year of work, he saw a well built in the Kotirwae school in Karamoja, one of the poorest regions of northern Uganda in the world. The ambassadors of water were the adhering boys and girls who chose to undertake an important mission: to help their peers in the southern hemisphere to have access to clean and drink water. A path in stages that also involved the families of the Ambassadors, who have become protagonists of conscious choices in the use, management and sharing of the water as resource. All under the careful direction of the NGO - "Insieme si può ...". Exceptional guest of the project, Ryan Hreljac, an internationally renowned Canadian activist, committed to spreading the Right to Water for all, and who has built over 1,000 wells for the benefit of over a million people in the poorest countries in the world. A year of work, and the water in Uganda flowed from the fountain of the Kotirwae school.
Today more than 1000 students can access such a precious resource by improving their lifestyle and solving the health problems related to the lack of drink water.
